PREMIERE: Cooper Kenward debuts with a floaty song about death on ‘In Due Time’, debut album incoming

Who wants to hear a cheerful song about mortality? Northern California export Cooper Kenward has got one for you if you’re a big fan of stark contrast between sound and subject matter. His debut single gets an assist from touring members of Hand Habits, Vetiver, Bedouine and more. It’s a sweetly melodic indie-folk song with morbid roots – from a ‘feel-good-even-if-you-feel-bad’ sort of songwriter – and it’s called ‘In Due Time’.

Of the song, Kenward – who’s settled in Los Angeles and has been working on plenty of new music – says briefly: “‘In Due Time” is a meditation on death, the inevitable, and the silly affirmations we tell ourselves to survive.”

Hear it first on Backseat Mafia before tomorrow’s release, and keep your eyes peeled for more from Kenward later in the year; though there’s nothing concrete yet, debut album-related rumblings are occurring, and we can’t wait to hear what’s coming next.
