Premiere: Cult of Free Love – Love Revolution

Musical collective The Cult of Free Love release their debut LP Love Revolution today on Wrong Way Records and we’re delighted to provide you with the premiere and full album stream.

From the mystical landscape of North Wales, the band prides themselves on their secrecy and this only adds to their intrigue. Love Revolution, comes on the back of their sell out single ‘Love Is All There Is’ and is the third release for the relatively new Wrong Way Records. The album encompasses eight deliberate journeys into unchartered territory designed to probe the inner reaches of the mind.

The album opens with ‘Drone On’, which as the title suggests, features plenty of droned fuzz, creating an ambient hum to ease the mind into this offering. ‘Jaya Deva’ is markedly different, with a predominantly Eastern feel the lashings of percussion and swirling female vocals ensure a dreamlike state is induced. ‘Interpretations of Love I (Kontakte)’ begins in an experimental fashion, channelling vibes from the likes of Kraftwerk, TCOFL being unafraid to play with sound. At the mid-point, this becomes entangled with piano harmonies creating a brave, distinct soundscape.

‘You Are Obsolete’ opens with vocal samples and progresses into a track with a catchy dance vibe, something that would not have felt out of place being played to a packed dance floor in the infamous Haçienda night club. Followed by ‘Interpretations of Love II (Danny Walley)’, the second part of the three part journey, we gleam an industrial edge to this track, lightened by the dance riffs that prevail – this is one for the movers and shakers to get down too. ‘Guru Lover’ is the lengthiest track, providing seven minutes plus of more Eastern vibes with its Hindi lyrics and sitar swagger. There is almost a psy-trance feel to this and it would appear that this is entirely intentional.

Penultimate track ‘Space Odyssey 2020’ is exactly as the name would suggest, a soundwave straight from space channelling laid back vibes so soothing that its easy to drift deeper into the track before the concluding ‘Interpretations of Love III (Tim White)’ bounces back to the present with a sampled opening before giving in to laid back grooves which completes the journey of the album.

For a debut LP, it doesn’t get more varied than this and fans of the band following the success of their debut single will not be disappointed. The Cult of Free Love have presented an offering here bathed in psychedelic grooves.

The translucent vinyl with red splatter comes in a transparent sleeve, making it visually pleasing as well. With two thirds already snapped up, grab yours here before its too late: https://wrongwayrecords.bandcamp.com/
