Premiere: East Londoner HUXLXY sets his sights on ‘More’ as he trails forthcoming new EP

HUXLXY (single cover)

East London’s HUXLXY closed out 2020 on a high with ‘Punk Rock Kids‘, a cinematic affair that mixed buzzing riffs with swaggering R&B and big-room production. Now he’s opening his 2021 account; the year’s half over, so what’s he been up to in the meantime? Putting the finishing touches on a new EP, as it turns out.

‘More’, which you can hear first on Backseat Mafia ahead of its release tomorrow, is the first taste of that collection, oscillating wildly between keyboard-driven verses and hefty, low-end-soaked choruses. There’s a lot going on here and it works very well indeed; trap-influenced blues with the sort of maximalist sound that’s become his hallmark, it’s over and done with in not even 3 minutes, a fascinating and ambitious blend of genres that marks an ideal entry point for those new to his work. Tune in below, and keep your eyes peeled for full details of that EP, which is slated to arrive in late summer:
