Premiere: Éyal Hai – I miss

The Side Project main man Éyal Hai, has stepped out of that particular guise to release a solo single ‘I Miss’ , which we’re absolutely delighted to premiere here on Backseat Mafia.

On the song, Éyal says “I first recorded the song as a voice memo on my iPhone, at 3 AM in my small Brooklyn apartment 5 years ago. I was trying not to wake my neighbours up while I was writing a song about my deepest feelings. I had just moved to NYC after graduating from Berklee, hoping to fit into the local music scene. I was far away from my family and friends in Tel-Aviv, and even further away from my girlfriend in Australia. The song was an expression of how foreign and lonely I felt. I never recorded the song, or thought about it too much, until now. When i started working on the song during quarantine, I was trying to maintain that quiet whispery feeling of the original voice memo. I experimented a bit with different instruments, and somehow playing the saxophone really soft and airy, what we saxophone players call Subtone, enhanced that feeling and I went along with it.I hope that people will find some comfort in their solitude with this song”.

It has a beautiful old time swing to the song, with the vocal tender and fragile, inviting you into his condensed, shrouded world. All around you though things glitter – whistles, the beautifully atmospheric winds and swept along with this gloriously shuffling rhythm section.

Magical stuff. Check it out, here
