PREMIERE: Guided By Voices are ‘High in the Rain’ as they prep new album for October

Don’t act surprised: Guided By Voices are releasing another new record this year. Driven by the eyebrow-raising work ethic of Bob Pollard, the Dayton, OH-based band (currently a quintet) opened their 2021 account with Earth Man Blues at the end of April, with aliased side-project Cub Scout Bowling Pins following that with Clang Clang Ho! in July. It’s now GBV’s turn once more; album number 34 arrives in October… and we’re premiering the new single from it, which we couldn’t possibly be more pleased about.

‘High in the Rain’ is a sumptuous take on the scuzzy rock sound we’ve come to expect from Pollard and company, with freewheeling melodies aplenty; it even throws in brass and string sections for the hell of it, because half measures have never been this band’s thing. Per Mr. Pollard, “We’re rushing out the singles for the new album, so fans can sing along when we start playing shows in a few weeks. If you’re not yet vaccinated, get it now so you can come to a show.” It’s the latest single from said new album, following last month’s lead-off ‘My (Limited) Engagement’; IT’S NOT THEM. IT COULDN’T BE THEM. IT IS THEM! (ALL CAPS, of course) arrives on Friday October 22nd. Get stuck in to their new song below:
