PREMIERE: KRISTEENYOUNG goes for the jugular as she shares striking new song ‘Life Kills’

This song and its accompanying video aren’t for the faint of heart, so fair warning – it thrives on chaos and the thrill of the unexpected. If you’re new to KRISTEENYOUNG‘s world, then welcome, she’s been expecting you. Young last released The SubSet in 2019, and she’s been at work on its follow-up. For now, we’ve got a title, concept and lead single.

The Beauty Shop is an ambitious, genre-skewing song cycle based on the life of a serial killer, and the unconventional songwriting and operatic vocals that have become the cornerstones of Young’s sound are accounted for on the grisly ‘Life Kills’, a cut of thrilling art rock that is by turns magnetic melody and repulsive dissonance.

We’re premiering the video; the single’s out tomorrow, and the album follows sometime early next year. Young’s confirmed for SXSW in March, too – keep an eye out for more The Beauty Shop details in the meantime.
