Premiere: LMNL release new single Outliar

LMNL, aka Oxford’s Simon Batten, has released a new single ‘Outliar’ taken from his upcoming debut eponymous EP, out today via Upcycled Sounds, and we’re delighted to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia.

Of the song, Batten explains: “It’s not really a spoiler to say that this song speaks about social anxiety, and how we keep forcing ourselves into situations that make us feel awkward and ‘other’. We intentionally tried to make part of the song uncomfortable to reflect this tension.”

Amid the stomping pop alt-pop stylings and gluey synths of ‘Outliar’, there’s a darkness, whether that’s the subject matter or the melancholy that’s weaved into the singalong melodies it’s not clear, but it is a damn fine pop song. Haunting harmonies and chopping synths buzz in and out , and there’s just something of the Talk Talk about LMNL that makes them/him a very exciting prospect indeed.
