We’ve got a lot of time for Brooklynites My Son the Doctor here at Backseat Mafia. We premiered ‘Bethany’ a couple of weeks ago, and with the release of their new EP on the horizon, we’ve got one last appetiser for you before the full six-song meal is served up next week, in the form of ‘Rubber Hands’. A taut and melodic track that delivers stacks of energy, it’s driven by steady drums and a bassline that oscillates between playful and stern.
Per the band, it was born out of the desire to mix both jazz and punk: “We liked the idea of making a song that felt like punks trying to play jazz. It’s a common complaint that people are statues at Brooklyn indie shows. We work hard to be both confrontational and inviting all at the same time. It’s an energy we really feed off and we tried to capture that in ‘Rubber Hands.’ The main goal of the song was just getting people moving.”
