PREMIERE: New Jersey’s Rubber Band Gun wrestles with self-doubt on propulsive new single ‘Like That’

Rubber Band Gun

Self-doubt can be a real struggle sometimes; prolific New Jersey artist Rubber Band Gun knows that more than most – you don’t release 25 albums in a single year on a whim, as he did in 2019. Kevin Basko’s been at the helm of this project for a while, and he announced a new Rubber Band Gun album back in July via our premiere of the widescreen epic lead single ‘My Time’. We’re delighted to say we’re bringing you a second preview of the album, which is out next month and is Very Good Indeed.

‘Like That’, the second single from Basko’s new record, is a hyperactive odd-pop odyssey that he wrote in a day just to prove that he could; which ties in with the lyrical content of the song pretty well: “[It’s] a song about excuses. It’s all the reasons not to do something. It’s your own unreliable narration, pulling you away from something better. We built it in a day and what you hear on the record is our single day’s findings.”

Produced by Jonathan Rado, ‘Like That’ is premiering today on Backseat Mafia; check it out below – it’s lifted from the 6-song LP Cashes Out, which arrives on Tuesday November 2nd via Earth Libraries.
