PREMIERE: Rubber Band Gun puts it all on black in video for freewheeling new track ‘My Time’, announces new album for November

Rubber Band Gun

If you know New Jersey workhorse Kevin Basko, then you know he doesn’t do things by halves. He’s spent much of the previous decade as the main creative force behind Rubber Band Gun, and put out a fully-fledged album pretty much fortnightly under this name in 2019. All 25 of those records are on his Bandcamp, and you can start with this very handy compilation released early last year. He followed that ambitious project up with Adventure Violence, Scary Images around Halloween 2020, and with three standalone singles under his belt since then, the time has once again come for a Rubber Band Gun full-length.

Well, sort of. You’ll have to wait a few months to hear the full thing – on which Basko is backed up by members of Foxygen, The Lemon Twigs and Jackie Cohen – but in the meantime we’re announcing said full-length and premiering the video for its lead single today. It’s called Cashes Out, and the first taste of it arrives in the form of the storming ‘My Time’, swept along by driving rhythms and melodies that recall the blustery modern rock of The War on Drugs or The Killers, with a rather Billy Joel-esque vocal from Basko floating on top of everything. A powerful epic that revels in the game of chance – “losing all your money in the summer, then taking it back in September” per Basko – it stretches to nearly seven minutes and makes every second count. Give it a spin below; Cashes Out arrives on Tuesday November 2nd via Earth Libraries.
