Premiere: The Holiday Crowd release video for Cheer Up

Toronto indie pop quartet The Holiday Crowd have released a new video for ‘Cheer Up’, debuting here today on Backseat Mafia. It was the first single to be taken from the bands self-titled sophomore effort, which dropped last month on the Shelflife label.

Cheer up is this picture-postcard indie pop (postcard being the operative word as the band nod towards Orange Juice) full of jangly guitars, stuttering basslines, and wonderfully wistful chorus’. accoding to the band “Cheer Up was written around a few chords and an accidental bass riff. The early recordings had a synth part played throughout and it was looking like it would end up as an instrumental. Then after some time sitting on it… the lyrics and melodies came around after listening to a lot of Mac Davis tunes.”

Of the video, the band continue “The video was shot in Niagara Falls Ont. on November 2016. It was a band effort. We kinda wanted to make it even darker of touristy type video but the local Mafia kind of got in our way.” It has this delicious sense of the DIY about it and, rather like the music, is irresistable.
