News: Unknown Festival, Croatia 10th – 14th September Announces line-up

Everyone likes a decent holiday, don’t they. Me, I love visiting places- it’s just the getting there that bothers me. You see, I’m scared of flying. Not just scared though, like properly terrified. I have to go to America sometimes, and in the weeks running up to it, I can barely sleep, become sullen and irritable, in fact almost morph back into a teenager. Once I’m on the things (incidentally, do they have to call the places where you check in ‘terminals’?), having routinely said my goodbye’s and taken long last looks at…well, everything, I usually just fall asleep, or alternatively play hours and hours of bejewelled.

Luckily most people aren’t of the same nervous disposition to me, so hopping over to Croatia for one of the best festivals in the world is easy. Hideout festival has become so popular (set on a beach, on an Island – err, not surprising) that already this year the event has sold out. With a line-up that boasts Modeselektor, Claude Von Stroke, Toddla T,  Chase and Status, Skream and Benga and more it’s probably hardly surprising. But instead of resting on their laurels, the organisers (in association with the warehouse project and Field Day) have come up with something new – Unknown Festival, which is set to run from 10th – 14th September this year. The organisers say of the festival

…the innovative Croatian event will combine our creative juices and love for music to create a hedonistic and immersive paradise. Attendees will stumble across mysterious and bespoke design projects interwoven with the most forward-thinking new music, combining an abundance of live acts, band performances and traditional DJ sets.Set in and amongst a lush, shaded forest the Unknown site is quite simply a campers haven. With an abundance of toilets / showers, the most stunning views, 3 swimming pools & the beach only a hop, skip and jump away, this really is kitted out for a delightfully cool (and peaceful!) nights sleep under the stars.Although hardtop accom is available on site, it is extremely limited so we would encourage you to get those tents out the loft and rediscover your primitive side. To give you a bit of a head start, we have put some festival tickets on sale with 5 nights camping included for £159.

But what is our interest in this festival, you may point out (or may not, given your level of interest) Well, its is several-fold (is that even a word) the first being it has a stellar line-up of fantastic acts, so why would we not be interested. Secondly it features design projects, something else we hold dear to our hearts at Backseat Mafia, and thirdly because one of the club partners is our (as in Sheffield) Itchy Pig. Big Kudos must go to them to be chosen as one of these partners alongside possibly more familiar names such as Eat you own ears, Bugged out and Mad Ferret. Shows that whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it right.

Topping the bill on the live front is a swathe of fantastic acts including Actress, Django Django, Four Tet, Jessie Ware, Lindstrom and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Added to that is an almost endless list of some of the top DJ’s working today. Included in these is Erol Alkan, James Holden, Jamie XX, Julio Bashmore, Optimo, SBTRKT. Floating Points, Joy Formidable and Scuba. There’s not going to be many places that you could put together a line-up like that in th world this year. and it almost makes you breathless thinking about it. I doubt there’s going to be much sleep time for those four days.

So if you fancy getting on a plane for a beautiful setting, with plenty of sun, sea, camping and a fantastic line-up, all for £159 (if your quick) then get along to the website, check out all the details and it should be a breeze. I certainly fly for it. And I don’t say that very often. Get your tickets here
