Say Psych: Track Review: Los Bitchos – Tripping Party

Rating: 7/10

Cassette only DIY label Blak Hand Records are known for finding gems and thrusting them forward, and their latest release from London ladies Los Bitchos is no exception. The trio play an playing an exciting Latin American dance-oriented sound commonly known as ‘Cumbia’.

Made up of Serra on and Carolina on guitars and Agustina on keys, Los Bitchos initially started off as a recording project after listening to a lot of Peruvian instrumental Cumbia from the 60s and 70s, citing Los Destello’s ‘A Patricia’ as the song that got them together as a band.

The release scheduled for Cassette Store Day is a fun fuelled double single, with lead track ‘Tripping Party’ invoking dance moves, rounds of tequila and beach sunsets. The eerie lack of vocals only emphasises the beauty and intensity of the music. ‘FFF’ is a slower entity, with an eerie western-esq. guitar sound and a haunting rhythmic sway.

Not your usual offering, Los Bitchos have boldly ventured outside the box, and if this is their debut offering, it looks as though good things are in store for the future.
