Say Psych: Video: Kill Your Boyfriend – Elizabeth (Danny Christ Remix)

Back in November, Treviso duo Kill Your Boyfriend released their latest single ‘Elizabeth’ before embarking on a tour of the UK. This week sees the release of a new subversive video to the B-Side, a remix by Danny Christ, the guitarist from Preoccupations (formerly Viet Cong).

The band who formed in 2011 are an artistic collaboration between singer-guitarist Matteo Scarpa and drummer Antonio Angeli whose combined musical prowess create something not like anything you’ve ever heard before (and may never again).

Over the past few years they have released several singles and ‘Elizabeth’ allows us the first glimpse into a new LP, where all the tracks are provided with female names in contrast to their last offering, The King Is Dead, where they were all male. Having shared the stage with The KVB, Zola Jesus Civil Civic, Zu and Preoccupations, they impressed Danny Christ to the point he enthusiastically agreed to remix the single.

When asked to describe their own sound, KYB simply state that it is “a killer that came in the night, violent and cold”. What could be more ominous than that… With that in mind, this video takes slices of mania, mixes it with phobia and mixes them together with coherence to great something on a par with that Aphex Twin video. Combined, the track and video provide the perfect accompaniment to the original and add a chapter in the unfolding tale. The band explain that starting from the idea of our original video for ‘Elizabeth’, for the Danny Christ remix we attempted to develop the psychosis of the main character into physical form, hidden behind a mask, gradually taking possession of the protagonist.

Mission accomplished we’d say!
