Say Psych: Video: The Dead Zoo – Mother

London’s The Dead Zoo have recently release their debut single ‘Mother’ on Rock Noir Recordings along with a fantastic video that captures the creativity coming out of the times we are living in.

Recorded and mixed from the bandmembers’ homes under COVID-19 separation, ‘Mother’ became a favourite from their live set and is  sung by Kaoru in her native Japanese. The digital only release will benefit grass roots venues whose existence is threatened by ongoing pandemic related closures. Kaoru says “without the existence of smaller venues and promoters, we would literally not have even been able to get a start. We mustn’t forget

that pretty much every UK artist that we now know and love got their start in the sort of places that are now in grave peril. About the track she explained “’Mother’ is a cover of a classic 1990s J-Pop single by iconic female duo PUFFY AmiYumi, whom I adored when younger. Our version has gone down really well in our live shows to date. We originally had no plan to record or release it, but in the initial months of lockdown, it felt perfect as a mood lifter, with its summery dream-pop jangles and pretty, slightly elegiac melody. We hope we’ve done it justice.”

All proceeds from sales on Bandcamp will be donated to the Save Our Venues fundraiser from The Music Venue Trust. Buy it here
