Taken from last months brilliant Civic Jams album, out via Warp Records, Darkstar have released a new video for closing track ‘Blurred’. Partly vocal, or at least sampled vocals and electronics, blurred is this hazy, beautiful vignette of a piece, as waves of the overlapping sounds lap against your ears in a calming, edifying way.
The video features footage of fans favourite venues past and present, and the ones we have lost, those places where bands remembered and long forgotten sweated and worked and gave their all for the pleasure of all of us music fans, almost makes you cry. With Covid-19 the threat of closure is very real for many more of these creative hubs, and the band are asking people to support the Save Our Venues campaign.
James from Darkstar adds: “This video represents all the places past and present that are instrumental in why we got to do this. I think I’ve been going to nightclubs since I was 16, buying records from 15 and tape packs from 14 all housed and cultivated in places either in this video or not too far. It’s a stark reminder of how hard it can be to keep these places going particularly now – so massive props to the people involved in working to keep that dream alive. It can’t be ignored to see just how many of these places fell. It’s hard not to correlate that to the political landscape and how the value of independent music is weighed up by these people even before a pandemic. We’ll try to signpost as many hashtags, gofundme’s and any other independent venue initiatives designed to help during this time alongside the video”
