With a name that virtually guaratees they’ll always skirt on the edges of popular culture, its rather unfair that New Zealand five piece Girls Pissing on Girls Pissing make such engaging psych tinged indie pop. It was back in 2013 that the band released their previous single ‘A Fraud Aboard’, but now they’re back with a new one, Rainbow Islands, taken from their soon to be released LP, Scrying in Infirmary Architecture.

Rainbow Islands is a drop dead gorgeous mix of hazy vocals and brass infused psychedelia, as it saunters onward on the back of some lovely girl/boys vocals, this bassline that wanders towards the funky here and there, and these trashy drums that meander over everything giving it this distinct slacker feel. Just as you think it couldn’t get any better, in comes the saxophone, dripping with sex. If nothing else, the melody makes it something you’ll come back to again and again.

Come on now GPOGP, play fair. Check out the video, directed by the bands drummer Catherine Cumming

Look out for the album, out later in the year on Muzai Records.
