Idlewild take their kaleidoscopic album Interview Music back on the road and celebrate with the release of new single ‘There’s A Place For Everything’.

Today Idlewild – Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Andrew Mitchell (bass) and Luciano Rossi (keyboards) – share the video for new single ‘There’s A Place For Everything’ (watch it below).

Taken from their critically acclaimed album Interview Music, the track features a ridiculously catchy sparkling synth melody and call and response vocals. When speaking about Interview Music, Woomble has noted that “A lot of the songs are about dreams and dreaming and the thoughts and ideas that come from this state” and this song is no exception, with lyrics like “their dreams are so different from mine” and “inside I’m dreaming of nowhere”. All of this is over a backdrop of shimmering and soaring guitars.

The track may have a summery vibe, but the Ingmar Bergman inspired video has a darker feel. Directed by Danny Grant, the story plays out in black and white and features a woman seemingly becoming more frustrated and trapped in her situation. Woomble has noted that the album’s lyrics “celebrate vagueness” and this track is particularly surreal in its reflections on the passing of time. The video seems to be a brooding interpretation of Woomble’s words, showing the need to break free as “existence isn’t always everything”.

Any Idlewild tour is essential viewing. Catch their beloved indie genius when they come to a place near you.
