See: Midnight Sister release new video for ‘Satellite’

Los Angeles artists Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian, aka Midnight Sister, have released a new single and video from their album ‘Painting the Roses’, which dropped on January 15th via Jagjaguwar. If you’re unfamiliar with the pair, Giraffe is a designer who makes the costumes for the bands videos, but also for other artists and campaigns, which Balouzian responsible for scoring the recent documentary Feels Good Man, a tale exploring the transformation of Pepe the Frog from a college joke to a far-right icon, and is also part of the LA group Gabriels.

Of the track, vocalist Giraffe says, “‘Satellite’ explores delusion and the way memory is influenced by perception. The video, shot through a funhouse mirror, finds clarity by embracing distortion.”

The track has this gluey soul about it, as it slides and swoons over this slightly arid backdrop, glittered by guitar lines, electronics, strings and winds throughout as it headnods its way through. More than that though, it pulls out some great funk tricks – that moment of silence, the space in the middle… c’mon, you cannot fail to fall for this, before it’s finally taken over by shuffling string sounds it dies away.
