UNORTHODOX former Sub Pop noiseniks No Age have got through some virusy distribution teething troubles and finally their new album Goons Be Gone, their second for new housekeepers Drag City, is out in the world.

And in celebration the duo, Randy Randall and Dean Allen Spunt, have released a rather lovely, abstract and colourful video for syrupy lovely “Smoothie”.

The track dials back just a bit on the punk noise, and finds a sunny corner in the raggedy US lofi tradition. It’s rather lovely and Malkmusesque, and falls apart pleasingly into feedback bubbles and overtones, Dean’s vocals deadpan and lazy.

Collaborator Aaron Farley, photographer and artist, was invited in to make the short film for the track, which you can have a butcher’s at below.

He said: “I instantly gravitated to the song “Smoothie” when No Age asked me to choose a song to make a video from their new album. With such an ethereal repetitious sound, it feels like it’s folding over on itself.

“I’ve been making these small, painted wooden sculptures that move and bend and contort and [No Age] recommended using the shapes and colours of the pieces I’d been working on at home to see where that would lead.  It took off from there.

“They really pushed me to go deeper into the movement, colours and shapes until everything started abstracting and feeling more like animations than physical things.”

No Age’s Goons Be Gone is available now at Drag City.
