See: Public Enemy announce new album, and release Fight The Power 2020 Remix

Iconic hip-hop crew Public Enemy are back, returning to the label that helped to make them – Def Jam, with a new studio album ‘What you gonna do when the grid goes down’, out on September 25th. Ahead of that they’ve released a new remix of their classic ‘Fight The Power’. It opened the 2020 BET Awards in June featuring Nas, Rapsody, Black Thought, YG, Jahi and Questlove.

Cultural Institutions are important.  Being an integral part of one is an honour bestowed and to uphold,” says Chuck D.  “Public Enemy songs are forever sonic prints in the sands of time. And it’s time – it’s necessary – to bring the noise again from a place called home. Def Jam.  Fight The Power 2020.”

The overriding thing about the remix is the anger and attitude that prevails throughout. All participants, from Chuck D, Flava through all the guests, spit verses that shout Black Lives Matter. Some of the original remains, much of the beat (which was perfect anyway, right) remains, whilst Elvis still meant nothing to Chuck, but everyone’s spin on this is, frankly, brilliant.
