FRESH from the unveiling of their massive rescheduled tour, which includes some of the biggest venues they’ve yet commanded – and from the eerie monochrome visions of “Foolish Parley”, their last single drop from back in January – Wigan’s cute indie risers have taken it back home for their new single, “Oh My Love”, on which singer Alex Moore dreams of his amour in the comforting surrounds of the local chippie, picking up tea and skying off into a reverie as a dancer serenades.
It’s a sweet folk-indiepop serenade to tuck into pie and chips and to, and dream of brighter days and brighter loves with a bittersweet lyrical slant – the song was actually written by Alex at the tender age of 16.
Alex says: “The opening line: ‘Your face seems to have sunken, in the event of my demise’ starts a back and forth with someone who is no longer with us, talking from above.
“Moving on, lines like ‘Time is weak and demanding of me’ are a concession to the fact that life moves on, it’s too short and there’s no need to hang on to negativity.
“It’s upbeat and happy, a complete juxtaposition to the starting point for the song when I was a hurting teenager.”
Recorded in Liverpool during late 2020, “Oh My Love” is the product of sessions in which the lads poured off-stage frustrations of lost live shows into a whole batch of new songs to take them onwards and upwards past their fine debut, The Memories We Make.
Hopefully we’ll see some real-time musical communion with them soon, as they hit the road across the country during the autumn, as follows:
