TEXAS TWOSOME Tele Novella, who memorably describe themselves on Twitter as “coin-operated medieval pop songs through a 1950s western lens” (and that’s totally on the money) have today released a third track and accompanying romantic Super 8 film from their forthcoming February album, Merlynn Belle.
We’ve taken in both of the two preceding singles: the country yearn meets French chanteuserie of “Technicolour Town”and the bell-clear, quirky lament of “Words That Stay”. Frankly, we’re aboard. They’re fun and entirely serious about it, they’re cute and swoonsome and deserve a place in the Kallax of your heart.
If the first two singles weren’t a done deal, then hell “Never” certainly sets the seal; a a straight(ish) country(ish) swoon, presented with the accoutrements of psych-lite: chiming 12 strings and vibraphones, over which Natalie yearns beautifully.
Written for her best friend after an unexpected loss, singer Natalie Ribbons says: “There’s really not much that you can do to alleviate grief, but getting to be there for her through the process deepened our bond.
“I saw her strength and big-heartedness all the more clearly after that experience, and it deepened my love and admiration for her.”
