Is been three years since The Antlers much admired long player Burst Apart showed that the band could produce some of the most sparkling and beautiful alt-indie music around. Originally a solo project for Peter Silberman in 2006, which spawned a couple of bedroom produced albums before enlisting Darby Cicci and Michael Lerner, and recording breakthrough album, 2009’s Hospice.
June 16th will see the release of a new album, Familiars via Transgressive Records (a day later in the US via Anti-Records). It was recorded, engineered and produced by the band in their Brooklyn studio, and mixed by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Beach House) at DNA Downtown Studios.
From it the band have released the video to Palace. Slow burning, and characterised by these almost Miriachi like sounding trumpets that move slowly, and end up layered on top of each other, and these padding, shuffling drums. But most of all, it’s a song that floats and flutters into you concious, pulling at your heart strings with its downcast melody. It’s a beautiful, sparkling introduction to the record.
The accompanying video is full of strong imagery, and was directed by Hana Tajima. It only serves to draw yet more emotion out of the track.
