CHESHIRE shoegazers turned Creation dub pop pioneers turned the nation’s sweethearts on the back of that runaway, never-prise-it-off your-radio hit, The Boo Radleys seemingly vanished forever into the annals of memory after one last, cruelly ignored album, Kingsize, as British guitar pop entered the downswing of the late Nineties; we would, we thought, never see their like again.
Or so we thought; until July, when three of the four core members (no Martin Carr, who’s pursuing a solo direction) emerged with the melodies of “A Full Syringe And Memories Of You”, and an EP of that name – which has finally received a vinyl pressing for Record Store Day Black Friday, more on which below.
There’s been half a dozen live shows, too; and now they’ve dropped the video for an even brand-newer song than those from the EP. It’s called “You And Me”, it’s classically Boos pop with a sweetly darker edge, and it comes from their first album in Jesus, I’m not gonna even think about how many actual years, Keep On With Falling, which is out next March.
Bassist and vocalist Tim Brown says of “You And Me”: “The spectre of cancer hangs over the song and is the ‘he’ that the lyrics refer to.
“He’s there, waiting to tear everything apart, but hope springs eternal and like the song says: ‘we’ll find a way’. It’s warming to hear the chorus featuring vocals from all three Boos in perfect harmony, elevating that sense of hope.”
