SEE: The Native – ‘Lost On You’: first for the year from anthemic West Country risers

The Native

ANTHEMIC Plymothians The Native have just dropped their first single of 2021, the stirring guitar anthem “Lost On You”; watch the video with us, below.

Still a new band by any criteria, really – they quickly built up a fanbase by word of mouth on the back of some electric gigs down west, with a lot regional media support – they only released their debut single, “Chasing Highs”, chronicling a sad local overdose story, in August gone. (We covered that here).

They enhanced a reputation as a band not to shy away from taking on the big issues with big guitars in October, following up that debut with “Break Away”, giving voice to a generation most likely to be affected by the Brexit project – but who were just too young to have voted. They capped the year off with the airy soar of “Frontline”, documenting domestic abuse with a little Starsailor in its bones.

Today brings the singles released to four, with “Lost On You” properly deserving of epithets such as ‘anthemic’. It’s accompanied by a lo-fi video documenting the band’s last few months in the studio, their hometown and beyond.

“’Lost On You’ is about holding out for a person who doesn’t like you back, knowing they’ll never feel the same,” they explain.

“Due to ever-changing restrictions we had to record at a few different locations, but it all came together in the end and we made a record we’re all really proud of”.
