Track: Through the Sparks – The Driveway

Since their inception some decade (or more) ago, Birmingham Alabama’s Through the Sparks have developed an enviable back catalogue which includes a couple of albums and EP’s and three (no less) compilations, and a cannon of songs to caress the ears of lovers of indie-psych, with a nod towards psych. From their upcoming album Transindifference, out this spring on label Communicating Vessels (distributed by Rough Trade) is a new track, The Driveway.

It saunters along, full of this arid countrified indie rock, its swagger uninterrupted as it tips its hat in the direction of the likes of Midlake and even Nada Surf. Frontman Jody Nelson’s vocal is similarly laid back, sugared by vocal harmonies as he tells his tales through myths and dreams and wraps them up in little bundles of melody. It might herald the start of Through the Sparks as a major artist. About time too.

Previous Album Review: Raleigh Ritchie - You're a Man Now, Boy
Next Track: Kate Jackson - Metropolis
