One of Backseat Mafia’s favourite bands, The Church, is touring Europe next month and in June, and have also just announced a series of special gigs for Australia in July.
Off the back of their superb and much lauded album, Further/Deeper (which we reviewed late last year) and following their sell-out tour to promote the album in Australia and the US (which we also enthusiastically reviewed), the band is playing the following dates throughout Europe:

I can’t recommend strongly enough that if you are close to one of the above venues, you get tickets before it’s too late: the band is going through a renaissance of sorts at the moment and selling out wherever they play. This is a band that has been cited by luminaries such as The Smiths, The Killers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Afghan Whigs and Brian Jonestown Massacre as an important influence on their music. And, live, they are incredible.
For their home fans in Australia, The Church have an extra special treat in July. They will be playing their iconic second album, The Blurred Crusade, in full, alongside songs from Further/Deeper and their back catalogue in two sets. The Blurred Crusade is one of my personal favourites and an album that brought them mainstream success in Australia. It is an album that could be said to have sparked the psych revival with it’s paisley soaked jangling guitars and enigmatic lyrics, containing anthemic atmospheric chiming songs that sound as fresh and new now as they did back in the early eighties.
