TRACK: Bastian Benjamin – ‘Threshold’: bright, organic ‘tronica

EXPERIMENTAL audio-visual producer Bastian Benjamin, born and based in the small city of Deventer, in the Netherlands, some 100km east towards the German border, has just dropped the bright, organic, atmospheric sweep of “Threshold”, the final single he’s releasing ahead of his next album, Two Truths, which will be with us in the first week of December.

Bastian, who finds inspiration from walking through his local woods, was something of a child prodigy, steeped in the sonics pretty much from birth: his father had his own recording studio in the backyard, and Bastian himself wrote his first piece of music at the tender age of 8; he released his first single, the skeletal and soulful IDM of “Come Close”, aged 18.

Among a diverse array of influences, he cites artists such as Clark, Lusine, and Forest Swords; although he feels his work sits closer to Trentemøller and Arca in the great musical pantheon (It’s Arca who’s released this latest single via Passage).

Bastian explains the concept behind the single and the feeling he captures: It is, he says, “The moment when the end is in sight, and you can already touch the light.

“[It’s] the moment where one final sprint is going to occur. And you will have to do it all yourself.”

Bastien Benjamin’s Two Truths will be released digitally by Passage on December 4th. Pre-save your copy here.
