After releasing massive single Care, which subsequently gathered upwards of a million streams, beabadoobee has released new track Sorry. This new single is as contemplative and provocative as her last, and her rich discography, but also wholly and refreshingly different. Beginning with a subdued section of Bea’s confessional words accompanied only by her guitar and rousing strings, the track then takes a deceiving detour with the full band resounding a grunge-y backing halfway through. This mixes beabadoobee‘s two equally brilliant styles, her more quietly blissful ‘bedroom pop’ style and the more harsh, headbanging 90’s rock style, to tremendous effect. Sorry is of course apologetic, but the tone is also vehemently defiant from the vocal style, with Bea herself stating it “confessing my mistakes in a friendship and watching someone who I love breakdown and fade away as a person. It’s the idea of dismissing something because it felt too close home and a personal reminder to never take for granted what that person could have had.” The song’s doleful lyrics of “you stayed in the same dark place that I adore” shine with spectacular emotion, with Bea’s soothingly high vocal coming to the forefront. The song then ends in a stirringly cataclysmic manner, with the elongated, moving vocals of “Sorry” amongst the huge percussion and slashes of guitar chords.
