Track: Broken Chanter – Wholesale

Broken Chanter has released debut single ‘Wholesale’.

Broken Chanter is the new solo project from David MacGregor principal songwriter of Scottish Alt-Pop darlings Kid Canaveral. Last year MacGregor isolated himself in spots around the Highlands and Islands, recording skeletal demos before decamping with long-term collaborator and engineer and producer Gal (Chvrches, Man of Moon, Frightened Rabbit) to a remote house to produce the album.

The first taster of this eagerly-anticipated album is ‘Wholesale’. At first it’s hard to say where this is going as the first 10 seconds or so could easily be from the Stranger Things soundtrack. It quickly builds in to an atmospheric, lush and well crafted layer of melodies. With some unexpected synth lines and female backing vocals, this song quickly develops into something quite beautiful and ludicrously good.

An audacious and deft indicator of MacGregor’s new direction and Broken Chanter’s musical manifesto, ‘Wholesale’ is out now on digital download and limited edition 7″ vinyl.  The album will be coming September 2019 on Olive Grove Records & Last Night From Glasgow
