Track: Didirri – Blue Mood Rising

Didirri is at the forefront of a whole bunch of preciously talented youngsters producing some incredible guitar-based music across Australia (see also Hatchie and Chakra Efendi, recently reviewed by Backseat Mafia).

We have visited Didirri before, and his talent appears to be exponentially maturing and developing on the strength of his new single ‘Blue Mood Rising’. In this song, Didirri’s voice is given full expression in a tone that belies his age: world weary, haunting and infused with emotion:

Of the lyrics, Didirri enigmatically ponders:

“What does it really feel like to be you or me? Have you ever stared at your own reflection and thought ‘is that actually me looking back through the glass?’
Do you look at versions of yourself from the past, that seemingly line up with your own story, thinking ‘are they dead to me now?’ or do you realise that you might have been pretending to be a new person this whole time?”

Whatever the answer, this is an enthralling song from an artist that is just growing immeasurably in talent.
