Despite news that her debut album Yellow has been moved back to July 23rd via her own label Movementt, Emma Jean Thackray has released another little taster of whats to come in the form of a third single, Our People.

Of the track, Emma says “Our People sums up what the whole record is about. It’s that cosmic-jazz-esque sound, a driving groove with synthy goodness, with lyrics that sum up the universal truth I’ve been writing about: we’re all our people. We’re not the same but we’re from the same, and we are one being. From one person to another, to a tree, to an animal, I believe we’re all one, and we’re all love.”

Driven by this incredible drumming and sousaphone, Our People sits somewhere between spiritual jazz and p-funk, Thackray’s vocal soaring and chanting and prodding and pulling everything forward, as the organ stabs here and there before embarking on this fantastic sprawling solo, and the backing vocals give it that gospel feel. Brilliant stuff. Check it out, here
