Even As We Speak are a Sydney band that formed in the mid-eighties and, after gaining a following in the Australian indie scene, eventually gained the attention of the legendary John Peel on BBC Radio 1 and airplay for their single ‘Goes So Slow’. This resulted in their signing by the iconic UK Sarah Records label where they released several singles and an album, achieving top five status in the Melody Maker and New Musical Express UK independent music charts between 1992 and 1993

Even As We Speak are founding members Matthew Love (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Mary Wyer (vocals, guitar) later joined by Rob Irwin (bass) Anita Rayner (drums, banjo, mandolin), Julian Knowles (guitar, keyboards, production), and Paul Clarke (guitar, vocals).
They played together as recently as 2018 in series of sold out gigs around the UK and, most excitingly, have series of gigs in Australia, the UK and Germany planned for 2020 – full details here. First gig off the ranks is on Saturday 15 February 2020 at the Marrickville Bowling Club in Sydney. Don’t miss it.
