WITH six of the best ready for your delectation out now in the shape of their EP, Since The Dog Died, and a British headline tour including a hometown show at Manchester’s Academy 2 mere days away, really, it’s fair to say that anthemic Mancunian indie rockers should be donning shades, for the future is indeed bright.

To celebrate that EP release, the band have dropped a video for the big, so very definitely fuzzy surge of “China Pearl”; that’s here for you right now, as are those tour dates.

Apparently inspired by the works of learned French cultural theorists Paul Virillio and Jean Baudrillard, “China Pearl” concerns the loss of meaning in society die to the speed at which we move and the technology with which we surround ourselves; fears of frontman Kyle Ross, as he explains.

“Musically, we wanted something quite aggressive, so we used processed drum machines combined with big, distorted riffs.” he says.

“We almost wanted it to sound electronic and mechanical, which again relates to the subject matter. We experimented with a lot of soundscapes and vocoders, using reversed guitars and a lot of delay pedals … a lot of fun in the studio.”

Of Since The Dog Died, he says: “[It] explores themes of depression, longing, disillusionment, hope, and even the philosophical. Lyrically, I think it’s a snapshot of the inside of my mind at a very specific point in time.

Those December dates are as follows:

Wednesday, December 1st, Liverpool, Jacaranda;
Thursday, December 2nd, Sheffield, Sidney and Matilda;
Friday, December 3rd, Birmingham, The Victoria;
Tuesday, December 7th, London, Islington, The Grace;
Wednesday, December 8th, Bristol, The Louisiana, and
Friday, December 10th, Manchester, Academy 2. Tickets are on sale now.
