Track: Glass Animals release new version of ‘Heat Waves’ ft. Iann Dior

Heat continues to rise for Glass Animals as single 'Heat Waves' gets dynamic rap rework

The heat continues to rise for Glass Animals as single Heat Waves gets a dynamic rap rework from next-gen US star Iann Dior (emotions, gone girl). The original track continues to hold strong in the singles charts, still at #1 in Australia and in the Spotify Global Top 50. Spotify showed a monthly peak of 15.5 million listens, surpassing artists Tame Impala, Gorillaz, The 1975 and The Strokes. Heat Waves was first released in June 2020 ahead of third album Dreamland, and became an instant hit with established fans.

The new version sees Dior meld his own lo-fi hip-hop sound with the existing, bass-heavy track and with Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley’s enigmatic vocals. The result is an understated embellishment of a song that continues to grow, nine months on.

Having gained healthy radio traction early, Heat Waves not only resonated with fans but also gained a sync placement on FIFA, opening up a whole new audience and helping the track climb charts worldwide. Most notably, the track was crowned number 1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 list in January 2021 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009. Glass Animals inimitable talent for giving wonder, witticism and magic to everyday scenes and sentiments makes them stirringly relatable. Album Dreamland entered the UK charts in its opening week at #2 and charted inside the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The album also clocked up a staggering 100 million streams in its first week of release.
