It’s been nearly two years since we reviewed the delightful album ‘Last Light’ from Brisbane’s dream pop giants syrup go on. They have returned after a year of songwriting, development and, I presume, avoiding the maelstrom of COVID with a new single: the luminescent and sparkling track ‘Lavender Sky’. Evoking images of pastoral, bucolic countrysides and sparkling sunshine, it is a dreamy fugue – floating and ethereal.
The themes reflect an element of nostalgia and the path to creativity:
Long talks and memories are filling the room
Small potted flowers starting to bloom
Loose grips on ideas floating away
Smells fill your nose leads your mind astray
To the lavender sky
The new video for the track is just as lush and enchanting. Filmed and edited by Emily Puxty and featuring Finn O’Sullivan, it evokes a sort of Picnic at Hanging Rock aura: sensual, spaced out, mysterious and evocative, blissed out in the thralls of nature:
