Track: Heligoland triumphantly return with dreamy new track ‘Palomino’ and announce album ‘This Quiet Fire’

It’s been three years since the magnificent Heligoland released the divine EP ‘Coriallo’, a swooning collection of ambient dream pop tracks mixed and produced by the legendary Robyn Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) (read my review here). There is no better way to begin the new year than with the release of a new track and news of an impending album.

‘Palomino’ is simply gorgeous: crystalline, arcing guitars and ghostly, aching vocals soaring throughout. It is, as always, the space inbetween that provide a mesmerising sheen to the song: lush, spacious and hypnotic. The dreamy quality is imbued with melancholy and hurt and yet provides joy at such a beautiful execution. The magic touch of Guthrie provides that certain lustre in the mix, but Heligoland’s strength is, as always, in their sparkling songwriting:

The joy that this release brings is further augmented by news that Guthrie is behind the production desk again and that a new album – ‘This Quiet Fire’ – is to be released on 12 February 2021. You can get the single and preorder the album below:

At the core of Heligoland are Australians Karen Vogt and Steve Wheeler, now based in France, along with:

Dave Olliffe – drones, keyboards
Robin Guthrie – drums, bass, keyboards
Jolanda Moletta – Piano (“Trinity”)
