Teenage Joans have just released a new track ‘Terrible’ which is their first new music since 2021’s ‘Taste Of Me’ EP. ‘Terrible’ is accompanied by a music video and will be their first release on their new label Domestic La La.
The Adelaide-based duo, comprising Cahli Blakers (guitars) & Tahlia Borg (vocals and drums,) have been playing together since 2018. In 2020 they took out the Triple J Unearthed Award and since then the band has gone from strength to strength, releasing new music and playing two sold out co-headline shows with TOWNS. Teenage Joans have toured prolifically, appearing at Yours and Owls, NYE On The Hill, Summer Sounds and Mountain Goat Valley Crawl festivals and have supported numerous bands including Violent Soho, Ruby Fields, The Hard Aches and Private Function.
Teenage Joans will be supporting Ball Park Music on their national tour in June and July before a slot at Spin Off Festival.
‘Terrible’ has an interesting history-it was actually composed before most of the ‘Taste Of Me’ EP was written but the Joans did not think that it was ready to release. So they rewrote it twice – first in April 2021 at a band practice and then again when they went into the studio in September 2021. The Joans say that the song is almost completely different from the original version now, except for the ending, which has remained the same since it was first written.
“‘Terrible’ is our first single since the EP, and we wanted to show the world a different side to Teenage Joans. We’re both influenced by a range of music, including punk/hardcore, so we really wanted to write a song with a heavier touch.

‘Terrible’ sees the Teenage Joans combining elements of grunge and punk to produce an edgy riff-filled track. ‘Terrible’ again illustrates the band’s ability to bring a melodic element to their compositions that shines through the roaring hardcore guitars. The video for ‘Terrible’ combines the plots of the movies ‘Antrum’ with ’28 Days Later’ to hilarious and somewhat gory effect.
The band will be supporting Ball Park Music on their national tour in June and July before appearing at Spin Off Festival.
