Track: Junk Drawer – What I’ve Learned / What I’m learning

Belfast quartet Junk Drawer are gearing up to the release of their debut album ‘Ready for the House’, out on April 24th via Art For Blind with a new track and the albums opening gambit ‘What I’ve Learned / What I’m Learning’.

Of it, co-vocalist Steve says “The title comes from the Dunning-Kruger Effect – basically the less you know, the more you think you know, while the more you know, the less you think you know.’

The song also served as an important opportunity to open up on feelings that had been buried well below: “It was the first time I wrote with a real purity of intent, allowing myself to let go of the irony, obfuscation and self-awareness that I felt obscured some of my previous writing, because of my complete loathing of heart-on-sleeve earnestness & sincerity.

I was suffering from a lot of communication problems ,epilepsy and brain fog, and I didn’t realise it until afterwards but it was an expulsion – as much of the album is”.

It’s angular, riff drenched post-punk, with elements of psych and indie rock drawn into it, bolded in a cauldron of attitude and served out with a good amount of melody to go with its fizzing, hypnotic, energy (wait for it….)
