Track: Jyoti (Georgia Anne Muldrow) releases new track ‘Orgone’

Described as an ‘R&B and astral-funk polymath’, the singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Georgia Anne Muldrow is an artist in perpetual creative motion. She has co-founded her own label Someothaship Connect Records, been produced by Madlib and received a Grammy nomination for her 2018 futurist soul, Flying Lotus endorsed album ‘Overload’.

Now Muldrow returns for the third time as Jyoti, the name she uses for her more jazz inflected projects, with the album ‘Mama you can bet’ released via eOne and Someothaship Connect on 28th August. Drawing once again on her fertile jazz heritage (both her parents were professional musicians) the new record includes two re-imaginings of Mingus compositions as well as Muldrow’s exceptional vocals, blended for the first time into the Jyoti sound.

She has already previewed the album with the spectacular electronica meets Alice Coltrane song poem ‘The Walk’ and now comes a second taster ‘Orgone’. A sharply political contemporary track ‘Orgone’ explores hopes for black people, the nightmare of racism and the African diaspora. This is powerful music of extreme honesty, a message delivered through spaced piano chords and extraordinary vocals, sometimes lonely, often layered and chanting. Georgia recollects that for the recording ‘I just closed my eyes and played piano, and then I wrote to it, and then I orchestrated on it, and then at the end, I sang the blues on it’. That closing gospel tempered section brings ‘Orgone’ to a gut wrenching conclusion…a statement of massive proportions all in three minutes.
