Track: Kid Koala – Fallaway (Feat. Emilíana Torrini)

If you think you know the music of Kid Koala, be prepared because with his new album ‘Music To Draw To: Satellite’, out on April 7th via the Arts & Crafts label, he’s take a rather dramatic sidestep. It’s an album that tells a heartrending tale of discovery and loss through the lens of lovers separated by a one-way space mission to Mars, and is a ambient electronic record, featuring woozy, spacious electronica with eight lyrical songs composed with, and sung by, Emilíana Torrini.

On working with Torrina, Kid Koala says “Emilíana Torrini is one of my favourite singers in the world. I’ve been following her work since her first album. She’s just got one of those singular voices that has captivated me for years. Even when she is singing at whisper quiet levels, it’s enough to crack your heart open. I’m so honoured to have had the chance to work with her on this record.“

Some of that delicate heartbreak is there for all to hear on Fallaway, which has this rather smudged electric piano/synth line at is base, with this subtle electronic hue adding to the vibe. It has this heartbreaking melancholy about it, that Torrini and her exquisite vocal are able to use to draw tears to the surface.

It’s staggeringly beautiful. Check it out, here
