Track: Listen to the Streets’ quintessential lockdown protest anthem ‘Who’s Got The Bag (21st June)‘

The Streets are back with a quintessential lockdown anthem to enjoy, pre-empting the arrival of the 21st June. The earliest date with which all lockdown restrictions will be lifted in the UK.  The track is titled ‘Who’s Got The Bag (21st June)’ and serves as a protest song as much as a potential celebration. Speaking about the track Skinner said:

“It’s been too long since I’ve been behind some decks, or on a stage, in a tour bus sleeping in a bunk. The moment we can do it we want to be the rave and we will. It’s also about hospitality, events and nightclubs not being able to take anymore,” he added. “It’s a protest song: it’s saying, don’t change the date on us again! FIRST IN THE ROOM. 21 June.”

This is Mike Skinner’s first release since last July’s mixtape ‘None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Alive’ which featured collaborations with Tame Impala, IDLES and Ms Banks.

The track is blessed with an aggressive, wonky bassline behind the chorus but besides that champions that stripped-back quality Skinner is so known for. The lyrics are hilariously apt for the times we’re living in.

“Tooting on the Boris // Smoking on a Rishi // Shooting with my hand cocked”

and

“First in the room// Thirsting from noon // Herbalist fumes // Where’s me balloon? // Curse off the zoom // Burstin? we boom // First in the room”

These are some of our favourite lyrics from the track which sits at 2:46 in length.
