Track: Melbourne’s The Meltdown conjure more ‘southern soul from the great southern land’ – new single ‘River’ out now via Hopestreet Recordings

Melbourne’s Southern soul and groove band The Meltdown have released their mesmerizing new single River via Hopestreet Recordings. The song is the very first to be taken from their sophomore LP It’s A Long Road, which is due out this summer. The energy of the track is driven by a gritty authenticity, from the twangy guitar intro and relentless rhythm section, through to the sweet, grainy vocals and exceptional sax solo. Its boldness certainly makes it worthy of first single status.

A story of heartache drives the song: “I lie by the river, so cold and blue. My tears in the river, can’t let go of you” is the chorus refrain. ‘River’ offers a solid introduction to The Meltdown’s new material and is sure to resonate with listeners who are partial to classic golden era soul music.

The high-energy soul track is just a sign of what’s to come on forthcoming LP ‘It’s A Long Road’, and is the band‘s first release since their self-titled 2017 album. Throughout the album, the band explore sounds reminiscent of Southern soul studios, from Memphis to Muscle Shoals, with as much country-soul and blues in the mix as there is soul and funk.

The Meltdown are Simon Burke (Band leader, vocals/keys), Lachlan McLean (Co-founder, sax), Eamon Mcnellis (Trumpet), Hugh Harvey (Drums), Ryan Monro (Bass) and Tom Martin (The Putbacks – guitar).

‘River’ is available on all online platforms NOW, as well as pre-orders for It’s A Long Road on LP, CD and digital via Bandcamp.
