TRACK: Milky Wimpshake’s tweepunk starburst ‘You Make A Nice Piece Of Art’ leads for October LP

IF YOU like your indiepop punky and proud, erudite and bearing a manifesto – yeah, like it used to – then Newcastle’s Milky Wimpshake should so be on your shopping list.

The thrashy twee punk project of Pete Dale that has been releasing lofi sherbet grenades of purest bouncealong thrashpop for a quarter-century now – debut LP Songs Of Zoom And Buzz came out back in ‘94 – are back!! with a new single, “You Make A Nice Piece Of Art”, which you can have a squizz at by clicking the Bandcamp link below.

It’s sweet and ragged and the guitars are just so; if it was out on 7”, you’d damn well hope it came in a little placky bag with a folded sleeve and a typewritten insert.

It also serves as notice of an LP in October, Confessions Of An English Marxist; which, after a long association with Fortuna Pop! will be the first record Pete, bassist Christine Rowe and drummer Emma Wigham will put out on Spanish label Bobo Integral – and also their first for five years.

Singer-guitarist Pete says: “It’ll provide the usual brilliant lyrics, full of references to pop culture, class struggle, and love, plus infectious indie punk tunes.

“[The album had a slow birth! At least one song on this album was written when ‘Dave’ Cameron (remember him?) was prime minister, hence a nod to bestiality on one track.”

Happily, when you click through to have a listen to “You Make A Nice Piece Of Art”, you can also secure your copy of Confessions Of An English Marxist, with a limited vinyl pressing of just 200 up for pre-order now.
