TRACK: Phoebe Bridgers releases EP of orchestral reversions; hear ‘Kyoto’

Pheobe Bridgers

LA’S lovely Phoebe Bridgers releases a new four-track EP, Copycat Killer, on Dead Oceans on December 4th; it features all-new recordings of songs from her critically acclaimed album Punisher from earlier this year.

She’s given them a different spin from the Punisher versions, pulling them away from their adorable lo-fi roots and towards a cinematic, string-laden delicacy with the abetting of GRAMMY winner Rob Moose, who’s also arranged and recorded strings for Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Alabama Shakes, John Legend and FKA Twigs, among many others.

And you can see the video for the new reworking of “Kyoto” below; a gorgeous, stellar light to accompany a song become a whole other thing from the album version.

Rough Trade, who’ve rated Punisher as no.2 in their Albums of the Year of 2020, have exclusive dibs on the 12″ of the EP, which also features orchestral retakes on “Savior Complex”, “Chinese Satellite” and “Punisher”. There’s only 1500 worldwide; best get your pre-order in now then, here.
