Track: Possum invite you to the psych ‘Gala At The Universe City’ – climb aboard and get your head ready for their second album

TORONTO PSYCH-space explorers Possum are gearing up for their second album in July for Ideé Fixe, and if you’re at all down with the du-jour King Gizzardy multicoloured six-string swirl, you’d do well by booking a place on their particular magic carpet ride. Here’s a first single from that high-summer long-player, “Gala At The Universe City” which they’ve invited you to attend with them.

It’s all part of the Lunar Gardens confection laid down by Brandon Bak, Tobin Hopwood, Patrick Lefler, Christopher Shannon, and Bradley Thibodeau in some heavy sessions to further flower from 2019’s Space Grade Assembly album. Some pointers from the band: it’s one for you if you dig Can, Amon Düül II, Frank Zappa; telepathy, ESP, thought transference, ley line riding … “the capture of cosmic energy and the alignment of astral flux”.

The band say: “While Space Grade Assembly dealt more with space in a cold literal sense, Lunar Gardens’ approach is more ‘space as metaphor for consciousness in all of its infinite expanding fractal forms’, a surrealist escapist space fantasy of impossible spaces — the type of place you might go when the things are too heavy here in 3D.

“If we were talking movies, one might say Space Grade Assembly is 2001: A Space Odyssey and Lunar Gardens is The Holy Mountain.”

Possum’s Lunar Gardens will be released via Ideé Fixe Records on July 2nd digitally and on trad black and strictly limited four-colour splatter vinyl with Transmissions from the Lunar Gardens by The Oscillitarium photography booklet, and can be pre-ordered now from the label’s Bandcamp page right now.
