Detroit post-punks Protomartyr have released ‘Worm in Heaven’, the second teaser track from their fifth full-length album, ‘Ultimate Success Today’. The song is more of a slow-burner than the band’s outstanding previous teaser track, ‘Processed by the Boys’. It features Nick Cave-esque vocals from frontman Joe Casey and Johnny Marr-ish guitars from his bandmate Greg Ahee, before finally starting to get noisy in the last 45 seconds or so. Check it out below.

Whilst the video isn’t as immediately attention-grabbing as its unsettling and blackly comic predecessor, it is without doubt just as visually distinctive. It comprises a variety of increasingly disturbing “abstract still images” edited together by director Trevor Naud, whose chief inspiration for the video was apparently Chris Marker’s classic 1962 short film La Jetée.

In other news, Protomartyr have announced that the release of ‘Ultimate Success Today’ has had to be moved back from May 29th to July 17th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have also had to postpone the tour they were due to undertake to promote the album until it is safe for them to embark upon it. The album is available to pre-order from Domino.
