Track: Slow Crush – Reel

Shoegaze seems to be a genre that undertook a popular resurgence in the latter part of the ’00s. My Bloody Valentine released new music, a number of musicians took influence from the genre and, in 2018 to be precise, Belgian quartet Slow Crush released Aurora.

Such was the appeal of the album that the band were invited to tour alongside big names in the alternative metal field incuding Pelican, Holy Fawn and Torche.

The group now follow that success up with “Reel“, taken from the two-track 7” release Reel/Pale Skin released by Holy Roar.

“Reel” effortlessly floats and rumbles in equal measure, expanding on their 90’s shoegaze and alt-rock influence with a bewitching contemporary feel while “Pale Skin” trudges and overwhelms with wave after wave of low-end and pounding drums.

Both songs ensnare the listener, dipping in and out of rhythmic hypnotism and melodious catharsis, with an enigmatic look to the future.

Reel/Pale Skin is available now through Holy Roar Records.
