Track: TANDM – Earthworm (2020 Remastered)

‘Earthwork (2020 Remastered)’ from Toronto duo TANDM (Thomas Franklin and Maxine Beck-Sinderby) is such a delightful pop song – catchy, bubbly and endearing, providing a panacea to our dark and troubled times.

According to the band,

This song is our response to the people who don’t believe music-making to be a professional career, or in a musician’s ability to succeed. Rooted from our personal experiences, having been asked “okay, I get that you’re into music, but what are you really going to do?”

Apt sentiments for a time when politicians are telling musicians to retrain and get a real job.

The vocals bring to mind the style of Kim Deal (Pixies and The Breeders) – slightly laconic, self-deprecatory and fun – while the music is low-fi, simple but creatively constructed to form a perfect pop song. The accompanying video provides a perfect brightly coloured palette for the day-glo splashes emanating from the song.

Utterly charming.

The song is off the duo’s forthcoming EP ‘Reflections (Remastered) due out on 22 October 2020. You can access the single and a lot of other tasty delights here.
